I think photography can be very useful in the classroom. We often say pictures are worth 1,000 words, but rarely take advantage of this idea. In high school I took a class called imaging. In this class we used digital cameras and programs like photoshop. I loved this class. We learned about composition, the history of photography and how to effectively take pictures and change them. This class was unlike any other I have taken. While I do not plan on teaching a photography class I think it is a great way for children to use their creativity or just learn the many uses of pictures. Pictures are often able to explain ideas much better than just words. I think that this is a great way to use technology in the classroom that may not be so intimidating for students because they are so familiar with it.
Not only is photography useful in the classroom for athsestic purposes, but to document work as well. It may be useful to take pictures of students' work to document it for a digital portfolio. Photography is also a great way to give students ownership in the class by posting pictures of them at feild trips and science fairs.
